About the movie

Homeopathic medicine is one of the most widely used forms of alternative medicine on the planet but, despite its popularity, it has come under a great deal of scrutiny in recent years and is now a favorite target for skeptics and debunkers. The controversy surrounding homeopathic medicine is founded in the belief that something so highly diluted cannot work without violating the laws of chemistry. Magic Pills challenges viewers to decide for themselves by presenting new scientific discoveries, and real world successes that challenge these assumptions.

Many medical journals refuse to publish positive studies due to systemic bias, and the media can distort the truth by omitting information. The stakes are immense, if homeopathy works it could transform the medical system, and provide safe, affordable, and effective medicine. Is the truth being buried?

Journey with Ananda to Tanzania, where for the past 25 years a husband-and-wife duo of homeopathic doctors are using their skills to help thousands of HIV/AIDS patients in the most remote regions of the country. To Cuba, where she was the only person from outside the country given permission to tell the story of how homeopathic medicine given to millions of people stopped an epidemic in just a few weeks. To Kolkata, India, where the Banerji Clinic is having unparalleled success treating otherwise incurable brain tumors and other forms of cancer. To Mumbai, India where an MIT trained chemical engineer has discovered nanoparticles in the most dilute medicines. And finally to Switzerland, where a government-commissioned study led to by the public health-insurance program covering homeopathy.

Magic pills is for everyone who is wondering how homeopathy can survive in societies that are so hostile to it. It is for people wondering why especially educated people are seeking homeopathic treatment.

It is for people wondering why doctors still offer homeopathic treatment.

It is for people wondering why patients call their homeopathic remedies magic pills.

Homeopathy is a magical medicine and Magic Pills is a timely, important, and beautiful film about this magical medicine. While mainstream media and the medical and pharmaceutical lobbies would have you believe homeopathy is hocus pocus, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Magic pills deftly dismantles the mainstream narrative with a balanced and thoughtful tone. It is beautifully filmed and will leave viewers wanting to learning more and wondering why this story isn’t all over the mainstream news.

This remarkable film follows homeopath Ananda More on a thought-provoking journey as she examines the evidence for homoeopathy in the world today. The handycam style of film-making employs a deeply personal quest to engage the audience in evaluating the evidence for and against homoeopathy. Starting from her Toronto practice she explores far flung places where homoeopathy is thriving, notably in Cuba, India and Tanzania. Her documentary style is both personal and deeply engaging, inviting the audience to participate in her voyage of discovery. As an old hand in this industry I was aware of the stories and personalities but Magic Pills brings out a new dimension and presents pioneers as they truly are making this film deeply memorable and important for all to watch.

I thoroughly recommend Magic Pills. Unprejudiced viewers of this excellent film will experience two things: astonishment at the scope and power of Homeopathy as a healing modality; and shock at the vile and deceitful manner in which the Homeopathic profession is treated.

I was stunned to learn Magic Pills is Ananda’s first foray into film making! It really is excellent and kept the audience in LA spellbound. I especially loved the way it was edited. Moving back and forth from Africa, India and Cuba revealing more and more about Homeopathy’s astonishing capacity to transform people’s lives, even under the most challenging circumstances. Be sure to watch it and host a screening, too, if you can.

A must see film - Magic Pills is a beautifully shot documentary that takes you on three different journeys into homeopathy. Shot from three different locations in the world, India, Africa and Cuba. In india homeopathy is fully integrated into the medical system and is estimated to be used by over 60% of the population. In Africa homeopathy is used alongside antivirals to assist Aids suffers. In Cuba homeopathy was used successfully to reduce the spread of leptospirosis. Three inspiring stories about homeopathy. One great film.

I went into the viewing of The Magic Pills movie expecting a feel good movie that would show the efficacy of homeopathy in health but I was surprised, the movie was hard hitting with a balanced delivery. Evidence was presented for how well homeopathy helps major issues in health such as cancer, A.I.D.S., and epidemic infections diseases. The film also demonstrated the tide that is flowing against homeopathy from a minority of influential sources that do not seem to want the knowledge of how well, and inexpensively, a natural cure can help. If homeopathy is acknowledged as a complimentary option to the conventional medical model it will be a powerful adjunct for people all over the world.

Ananda More

Ananda More

- Producer and Director

Ananda began as a profound skeptic of homeopathy, having learned about it as part of a university course, she couldn’t understand how anyone could believe in such rubbish. That is, until a profoundly transformational experience while backpacking through India. After an initial encounter, where she felt dramatic relief from homeopathic pellets while dealing with a case of severe Delhi Belly, Ananda decided to visit an actual homeopath, for a proper consultation. The apparently miraculous cure she experienced after life long depression changed her trajectory in life. She always knew that she wanted to dedicate her life to helping others, and instead of going to law school she decided to pursue homeopathy as a career.

Ananda graduated from the Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine in 2005, went on to study around the world with some of the most highly recognized homeopaths, and became co-owner of Riverdale Homeopathy, a clinic, bookstore, dispensary and general hub for everything homeopathic in North America. She has served on the council for the homeopathic regulatory body of Ontario as well as the board of the Ontario Homeopathic Association.

As a practicing homeopath, Ananda became increasingly disillusioned with the portrayal of homeopathy in mainstream media, particularly after being misrepresented by local magazines. She was familiar with the evidence base and was aware that the media was shaping a prejudiced narrative. She knew something had to be done to educate the public in a fair way, and give people the opportunity to decide for themselves and advocate for health choice freedoms. That is where the vision for Magic Pills arose and a 9-year journey of filmmaking and producing ensued.

“Working on the film and traveling to various places around the world, including Cuba, Tanzania, India, Switzerland and London, I got to witness first hand how homeopathy truly saves and impacts lives and that has transformed my own outlook. I met brain tumour survivors, diabetics, AIDS patients and hundreds if not thousands of individuals who thank homeopathy for easing their suffering and saving their lives. What I now understand is how vitally necessary it is for us to maintain access to this incredibly affordable medicine which the pharmaceutical industry cannot control and therefore fears. Homeopathy is seriously threatened globally and urgently threatened in the USA. I hope this film can make an impact and support the movement for continued access to this life saving medicine.”
